WHAT IS THE PROJECT?

We are proposing to build two wind turbines in South Gloucestershire, on land to the north of the M4 motorway between Pucklechurch and Westerleigh (postcode BS37 8RE).

These two wind turbines would be owned through a community benefit society structure, with all financial surpluses committed to benefiting people in South Gloucestershire, with particular focus on communities closest to the site. Over their lifetime, the turbines are intended to support work on fuel poverty, home energy efficiency and climate action, alongside other local priorities identified by communities.

The Leigh Farm Community Wind Turbine Project has the capacity to power the equivalent of approximately 8,000 homes, saving 5,000 tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere each year, contributing to local and national energy goals.

LEIGH FARM WILL DELIVER THE FOLLOWING BENEFITS:

  • All financial surpluses will benefit residents in South Gloucestershire, with a particular focus on communities closest to the site. Over their lifetime, the turbines are intended to support work on fuel poverty, home energy efficiency and climate action, alongside other local priorities that communities identify.

  • Enhance local biodiversity by creating and maintaining habitats, such as planting hedgerows, wildflower meadows, and native trees. The open spaces around turbines make it possible to restore and manage habitats that further support pollinators and other wildlife.

  • The project will be fully decommissioned at the end of its lifespan, with all infrastructure removed and the land returned to its prior use.

  • Supplies a secure and reliable source of clean electricity, contributing to the UK’s climate ambitions.

PROPOSED LOCATION OF TURBINES - WHERE WILL THE DEVELOPMENT BE?

The turbines are proposed on land at Leigh Farm, close to the M4 motorway. This follows a detailed site selection process that considered various sites across the West of England. See the map, pictured below:
