This website provides information on Bristol Energy Network (BEN)’s proposal to build two wind turbines in South Gloucestershire on land to the north of the M4 motorway between Pucklechurch and Westerleigh (Postcode BS37 8RE).

These turbines would have an installed capacity of 8.5 Megawatts (MW) of clean, renewable energy. This is the equivalent of powering more than 8,000 homes per year and saving an estimated 5,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. This will provide significant benefits to the community, with all surplus profits going back to vital community initiatives and projects in South Gloucestershire.

This will be the first community turbine project in South Gloucestershire. It follows the successful delivery of the Ambition Community Energy Turbine in Lawrence Weston, north west Bristol, a project that is already showing how a community-owned wind turbine is delivering local benefits and impact.

ABOUT BRISTOL ENERGY NETWORK

Bristol Energy Network is a community energy membership organisation, representing over 30 community groups and organisations in Bristol and the wider West of England Mayoral Combined Authority region.

We are driven by a shared mission to deliver a just energy future that works for all. We address barriers to participation in the energy transition because we believe that a greener, fairer energy future can only be resilient if it is led by communities.

Community energy as a movement seeks to move vital money away from large corporations, into community energy groups and anchor organisations for social good. This might be programmes to reduce energy bills through draught-proofing, funding for thermal surveys, or supporting people with their energy bills, or it might be people coming together to create energy projects that generate funding for their community work.

We’ve been building this future since 2010 - and our programmes span community-led energy support, fuel poverty alleviation, energy education and training, as well as working with communities to develop energy projects.

The Leigh Farm Wind Turbine Project is the next step in this journey to a fairer energy future. Built on the success of the Ambition Lawrence Weston community turbine, Bristol Energy Network, with support from the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority's Green Recovery Fund, is developing the proposals to create this innovative project, with vital surpluses going back into local benefits and impact.
